Due to aging eyes I am considering replacing it with some sort of Android tablet with a larger screen. Garmin Pilot Users Guide for Android software pdf manual download. Even though I haven't flown in a while I still use it for road trips. A quick look through the Play Store found several. Android tablet to replace Garmin 396 I really like my Garmin 396. I do believe the writing is on the wall for the portable GPS market. All the above for less than the $250 I would have spent having the AERA fixed and I get free software, free chart updates, real time weather, weather radar, traffic, etc. Also bought the parts for a Sratux ADSB in receiver which wirelessly interfaces with AVARE and the Samsung. Instead.I bought a 7 inch Samsung tablet and run AVARE. I thought Garmin had some software that would do this but I can't find anything on their website. My $600 Garmin Aera 510 became intermittent and would cost $250 to (maybe) have fixed. Does anyone have any experience with the apps available for android tablets, both for road & aviation use? I would need something that had the maps in an on board database as many of the road trips I take go thru areas with no data coverage. I like the Bluetooth GPS app because it has a status of all the GPS information, a map and bar graph of all the satellites, and you can view the actual NEMA data stream as well as capture it to a log.Īnyway, it is really versatile and can run at least three concurrent connections using three different methods. No matter what you need to bring Garmin to life on your connected device, we’ve got you covered. Last edited by PistonBlown 01-17-2016 at 04:54 PM. I suspect the other issue you'd have would be getting the info from the Android Tablet and onto the Garmin. Bluetooth GPS takes over control of the GPS and substitutes the external GPS as the source for other apps. It says in the description it's available for Apple and Android (well it mentions Google Play). Using that app I set Fltplan Go to use the internal Android GPS. I also paired my Galaxy S8 phone but used Bluetooth GPS app to be the mock GPS provider. Then I paired a spare iPhone to the GLO and used Google maps on it. This also overrides the internal GPS if present. That connects the GLO directly to Fltplan as an external ADSB (with no ADSB functions) GPS. Today I was testing concurrent connections and was pleased that I could connect directly to Fltplan using the external tab, selecting Garmin, and then pairing with the GLO. So now I have been using it with a Galaxy Tab E running Fltplan Go for aviation and for off line road map use.

We went to the mountains and used a topo map by Delorme and I really liked how well the GLO worked for that. Avenza Maps is a mobile map app that allows you to download maps for offline use on your iOS and Android smartphone or tablet. I have had my GLO for several years starting with a laptop then moving to an Android tablet for use in my 4wd.
